“Your house doesn’t have to be spotless.
Your work doesn’t have to be flawless.
You don’t have to please that finicky member of your family.
You don’t have to look like a page out of a magazine.
You’re already enough…
BECAUSE JESUS IS ENOUGH IN YOU.”
(Holley Gerth, You’re Already Amazing)
Yep. Holley said it. And yep, I love it. And super YEP – that’s why we chose this book for our fall series!
This upcoming weekend, I’m heading out to co-lead an incredible group of women on a retreat! I’m so excited! I mean, come on! Is there anything more awesome than spending a weekend with some pals, away from the details of daily life? (Okay, yes – a weekend away with your husband, or even by yourself, is just as awesome. I just happen to be spending THIS weekend with a big ole’ bunch of sister friends, so humor me here!)
Over the past weeks and months as I’ve been preparing messages for this retreat, I’ve been meditating on the theme chosen by the wonderful retreat committee – “A Time to Connect”. It’s a pretty awesome theme, really.
Time. To. Connect.
It’s something we all need. Something we all covet. Something we all seem to find ourselves lacking at one point or another. Something that gets in the way of doing all the things we think we need to do to in order to be “worthy” of the respect and praise of not only others – but even of ourselves, AND God.
The thing is, we’re already worthy. We are already enough. We’re already amazing (thank you, Holley!). We are ALREADY glorious because He who lives within us is simply this: GLORY.
And so that makes us the offspring of Glory – therefore, we are glorious. As is.
I know. Sometimes you don’t feel like you are. Sometimes I don’t either. And so that’s what our Fall Series here at Stringing Pearls with Wendie is going to be all about – bringing us back to the glory of God so we can remember what’s important. Know who we are in Him. And let all the rest fall away because it’s just a bunch of pretense anyway, isn’t it?!
For the record, this isn’t going to be some “rah-rah, self-empowerment, pump-it-up-at-the-expense-of-Truth” party series. Because, while it IS about you, it’s way more about who He is and who He made you to be. And in the end, that’s what makes you amazing anyway.
We’re going to read this great book by my new friend, Holley. We’re going to delve into scripture and even memorize some that will take root in our hearts and blossom into strong stalks that will lift our hearts and prayers high up to heaven. We’re going to talk openly and honestly about ourselves, the way He created us, and share those thoughts with each other.
There’s a reason Jesus told His disciples that after loving God, the greatest commandment then would be to love others as we love ourselves. How can we do that effectively ,and as He hoped we would, if we don’t learn to love and accept ourselves?! We’re going to get more into this later on this fall, I’m just putting it out there right here, right now, for any of you that might be wondering how holy it is to call yourself GLORIOUS. Food for thought, right?
So. What’s next? Well, if you haven’t already done so, please get yourself Holley Gerth’s book, You’re Already Amazing. (Click here for a link to purchase it on amazon.com.) Make sure you have a Bible that you LIKE. (Click THIS link for my advice on Bible buying!) Mark your calendars for the week of September 16th because that’s when our study begins – both here on the blog AND in studies not only here in Illinois but in towns all over! Please be sure to let me know if you and your group are following us because we’ll be checking in with you, too, all series long!
I’ll be back next Monday with all the big details on what you need to read and do before the big start of the study and how it is all going to work. In the meantime, Thursday, I’ll be popping up a little ditty from Daily Smooches about a silly little something I do on those days when I need to get out of the house but just don’t feel quite glorious enough to see anyone!!! 😉
Let’s end with this beautiful piece of Truth suggested this week by our one and only Small Group Leader Coordinator, Lyn:
“The Lord will fight for you: you need only to be still.” Exodus 14:14 NIV
Thank you for this jewel, Lord, and thank you, Lyn, for bringing it to the forefront of our thoughts!
Have a great week!
