Hope IS in the House!

The world is feeling a bit shaky right now, isn’t it?

At times like these, we can be tempted to question God and His “whereabouts”. When it’s been awhile since we’ve “seen” evidence of God’s goodness, we can sort of fall into the trap of losing hope.

You know what I mean? Like, we turn on the television and the evening news has nothing good to report – night after night after night. “Where are you, God?”

Or, we open the newspaper and read stories of skyrocketing unemployment numbers, high crime rates in our cities, natural disasters, and wars and doomsday looming on the horizon. “How can this happen, God?”

But I’m sitting here on this side of your screen today to let you in on a little secret. Are you ready?

Our enemy – the one who wars against us in this world? He would love nothing more than to let discouragement squash your spirit and make you think God has up and left you here to handle this mess of a life all by yourself, without hope of a blessing or positive outcome.

This, my friends, is nothing but a LIE, regardless of how things “look” to you. Just because we cannot see the future, that doesn’t mean there isn’t one – and that it’s a good one at that!

How do I know? Because our God is the God of Hope. In Him, we can hold on to the confident expectation and desire that something good IS just around the corner – whether we can see it or not. Whether we can even imagine it or not.

Romans 15-13

I realize you may have some unusual and pretty dire circumstances in your life that get in the way of you fully experiencing or understanding the God of Hope. If that’s the case, I wholeheartedly pray that you reach out to someone today. If you suffer from depression and/or anxiety – call your doctor immediately. If you are grieving from a loss of ANY kind – call a counselor. If you feel dry in your faith life – call someone you respect as a spiritual guide.

Maybe your like me, though, and you simply need a reminder today of something my dear friend, Nancy,  says:  “God is good, always…always, God is good”.  If so, hang on to these words this week:

Jeremiah 29 11 Postcard

We, as Christians, don’t have to be holding our breath, “hoping” (as the “worldly” define hope), with fingers crossed and anxiety on our hearts that something we are wishing for will come to pass.

As Christians, we believe in BIBILCAL hope: “…a hope that not only desires something good for the future; it expects it to happen. And it not only expects it to happen, it is confident that it will happen. There is a moral certainty that the good we expect and desire will be done.” John Piper

Assurance through faith. Boldness and endurance. That is what our hope provides.

All is not lost. We are not a doomed people. We have hope in the form of Jesus. He’s not going anywhere.  Believe it. Receive Him. And overcome.

Will you join me in prayer today?

Father, we are at a time and place of great upheaval. Yet we know you are with us. Watching and waiting for the time to intervene with your will for this world. We don’t always understand (maybe we will never fully understand on this side of eternity) how and why you intervene and why you don’t. But we will trust you. Today, more than any other day, we claim Jeremiah 29:11 for ourselves and for every believer on this precious Earth. Lord, we thank you for HOPE. The kind given to us by your Holy Spirit to strengthen us not only when things are going well, but especially in times when we cannot see evidence of your greatness at every turn. We CHOOSE to believe, not only in hope, but in YOU. We pray this in confident faith through the name of Jesus. Amen.

I HOPE you have a wonderful week! (And I am confidently assured that you will!)
